The bar has been raised in the OTF D/A knife world with the Recon 040 from Guardian Tactical. A slightly larger sibling to the initial offering 035. The 040 features a 4 inch Elmax blade (standard steel now in all Guardian Tactical Recon OTF knives). The Guardian OTF internal mechanism is ultra smooth to operate, no stiff action like many models in the industry possess. The easy opening thumb slider makes operating this knife a pleasure. The innovative thumb slide feels great to the touch and their patented OTF technology proves worthy of its competitors respect. The patented locking mechanism allows eliminates drag upon deployment and retraction allowing for smooth operation.
The handle is anodized and hardcoated for durability and wear resistance. A little over 5.5 inches with miling and countouring in all the right places for exceptional grip and feel. The Recon 040 has plenty of handle to hold onto which makes it a perfect EDC to add to your rotation. The stainless steel pocket clip is reversible and carries tip down. All hardware on the recon series is Torx so no special tools are needed. Proudly made in USA.

Meh
The opening mechanism is smooth, but will junk up with pocket lint quickly. The handle of the knife is very large in comparison to the blade size. It’s a good, American OTF, but I have a Maxace Jupiter that is a much more well rounded knife. Not to mention half the price. I’m not impressed.

Smoothest OTF...
I had the the 035 and loved and wanted the 040. I am not disappointed. It is the smoothest Otf on the market. Puts the others way behind. Love it and love EK knives

Stunning!
This double action OTF is just awesome. The action is snappy and the switch feels super smooth. The thumb slide design is separated from the aluminum handle by a steel plate and 3 ceramic balls that eliminate grinding and wear. It is very well made and I will probably buy another Guardian Tactical in the future. The customer service from eknives was amazing. They were so nice that they even included a written thank you note, a sticker, a packet of Twizzler, and a band aid with my purchase. I definitely recommend buying your next knife here.

Better than expected
I’d put the quality of this knife up there with the best of them. Think Benchmade and Microtech having a baby., this would be the off spring.
