What is Hawk Lock

The Hawk Lock is a self-adjusting, ambidextrous, sliding lock bar system, somewhat similar in concept to the Axis Lock or Able Lock, but with its own unique mechanical design and feel.

  • It uses a sliding bar (usually located on both sides of the handle) that rides along the spine of the knife.

  • The lock engages by wedging or locking behind the tang of the blade when opened.

  • To close the knife, you pull the lock bar back, releasing the blade.

What is Toggle Detent

This is a proprietary toggle-style detent system designed by G&G Hawk and used in their Talon model. It's different from traditional detents and works via a toggle linkage (a type of mechanical lever system) that provides:

  • A strong, reliable hold on the blade when closed,

  • A smooth but firm resistance when opening,

  • And likely contributes to a unique deployment feel.

The toggle detent is not a lock—it just replaces the typical detent ball system and interacts with the opening action of the blade in a more engineered, mechanical way.

What is Detent

In folding knives, a detent is a small mechanism (usually a ball and a hole) that keeps the blade closed until you apply enough force to open it. It helps with:

  • Safety (blade stays closed),

  • Smooth deployment,

  • Snappy action
