The Eagle Talon is the tomahawk that started it all. It was the first all-steel integral designed tomahawk and has been the keystone for all other RMJ tomahawks. It was inspired by 18th Century French and Indian War tomahawks that our designer, Ryan, had been emulating for many years.
In the Spring of 2001, Ryan was commissioned by members of the USAF 820th Security Forces to design a tomahawk that featured 18th century lines and 21st century engineering; a tomahawk for modern combat use. Work began, and by the fall of 2001 the Eagle Talon Special Forces Tomahawk was being used in Afghanistan.
Why a Tactical Tomahawk?
The tomahawk has served as an effective field tool and weapon for over 300 years, and the physics behind the tomahawk design give it many advantages over a knife. The user can choke up on the grip to use the tomahawk like a more traditional knife, or when held in a normal grip, the cutting power and strike force is multiplied several times over due to the leverage created by the length of the handle.
We are phasing out tube rivet construction for attaching handles and replacing them with handle hardware as you can see with this new Eagle Talon edition. The hardware will allow simple handle changes to give you the chance to run any color handles you would like.

Lifesaver
I've used my original Eagle Talon I got back in '07 for everything from backpacking/camping to rescuing neighbors during a fire in the middle of the night at my old condo. Extracted a senior next door and a single mother with 2 kids who were trapped in their second floor master bedrooms. Fire department was minutes away, but the smoke and heat was rapidly escalating. Grabbed my ladder, tomahawk, and med bag and with another neighbor helping stabilize the ladder, I used the tomahawk to smash and clear each window in seconds. Got the kids and mom out first and moved over to my senior neighbor ,and luckily a few police had arrived already to help get him over the ledge and safely down the ladder. I suffered moderate smoke inhalation and got knicked in a few places by glass but otherwise was fine. Never really shared this story this publicly, but wanted to speak to the dependability and quality of this tool. Every second mattered, and maybe a hammer would have done the job, but the tomahawk did it much safer and was perfect for raking the frame of jagged edges and quickly clearing the large sharp pieces. I also knew exactly where it was in a readily accessible to me location. Since then, all my serious carry/use sharp things have been RMJ, and even the heavily used tomahawks will outlive me. The price is reasonable for a tool that will likely last several lifetimes. Highly recommend.
