Swiss ArmyThe "Swiss Army Knife" is over 100 Years Old. This useful pocket MultiTool was legally registered on June 12, 1897. Over 34,000 of these pocket tools leave the factory in central Switzerland each day.Made by two Swiss companies called Victorinox and Wenger, it was originally intended for officers and soldiers of the Swiss army. Swiss Army Knives have become an expression for versatility and portability. Today they are produced in a wide range of varieties, including all sorts of tools from a blade to a digital altimeter.
Commercial Victorinox and Wenger SAKs can be immediately distinguished by their logos; the Victorinox cross is surrounded by a shield with bilateral symmetry, while the Wenger cross is surrounded by a slightly rounded square with quadrilateral symmetry. The two models supplied to the Swiss Army instead bear the Swiss Coat of Arms.
After an unparalleled success story around the world, the VICTORINOX "Swiss Army Knife" is even
orbiting the earth as part of the standard equipment of the Space Shuttle Crew. The knife has also
been successfully proven on expeditions: in the arctic ice of the North Pole; on the highest peak
on earth, Mount Everest; in the tropical rain forests of the Amazon, and elsewhere. Swiss Army knives are popular to use when camping or working in the outdoors because they are small, easy to carry and very useful. Return to top »» |
