Spyderco Rubicon C187CF Flipper 2014 Import Knife of The Year
Posted by Clayton on Apr 10th 2014
At the 2014 Blade Show I got a good look at the 2014 Import knife of the Year, the Spyderco Rubicon designed by Peter Carey. Carey is a custom knife maker who has been in the game since 1997 and makes high quality custom tactical knives. Once again Spyderco has dipped into the flipper knives category and continues to show they are a legit contender.
The Rubicon was just released in time for the holidays and features a very exotic, new age look that will attract a host of enthusiasts. The Rubicon captures Carey's custom design and allowed Spyderco to make it a production folder made from high quality materials.
Blade
The Spyderco Rubicon blade is made from CPM S30V metallurgy powdered stainless steel that measures 3 inches in length. The integrated flipper allows for fast one handed opening. The index protrusion pioneered by the late Kit Carson features ball bearing washers around the pivot for smooth opening.
Handle
At 4.3" the Spyderco Rubicon handle is made of carbon fiber and built on a framework of skeletonized full titanium liners that provide exceptional strength to the knife’s LinerLock mechanism. The 3D high polished carbon fiber scales are really a sight to see.
The special 3 lobed pivot is surrounded by orange G-10 inlays and matches the backspacer. The contoured curved pocket clip is broad and allows for tip up right hand carry. At just 4.3 ounces, the Rubicon is extremely light and perfect EDC size.
