A Glorious White Elephant!
As a person who has many knives in his collection, I have a certain fondness for CruWear steel blades. And Benchmade did a darn fine job with this specimen here. Though the tanto shape isn't my favorite, it's far from the worst geometry to deal with (it's not like I'll be using an OTF to cut a pizza). Shape aside, I like how Benchmade designed the Shootout's blade to be dead-perfect centered with the handle, as opposed to favoring one side (as with most OTFs). The firing mechanism is strong and robust, and shoots the blade out with a solid mechanical snap (certainly not stealthy or subtle). And I like that the firing switch is on the stiff side, making sure that engaging the blade must be intentional, never accidental. As for the color, I absolutely love the purple ano' Benchmade put on the clip, working well with the deep purple of the handle's FRN shell. They really hit the sweet spot with that color combo. My only real complaint is my stupid state laws wouldn't let me legally carry the knife outside of the home, making this bit of a white elephant gift to myself.
