Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight

The Para 3 is a smaller version of one of the most popular production knives of all time: the Para 2. With its 3-inch CTS-BD1N steel blade, the Para 3 is designed for ergonomics and cutting performance.

By scaling down, Spyderco has made the Para 3 the perfect EDC knife. The 4.3-inch FRN handle is nested with stainless steel liners, making for seamless hand control.

The patented compression locking mechanism, Spydie round hole, and light weight (2.6 oz.) allow for a great balance of speed and strength.

Spyderco McBee, Jonathan McNees Customs

The Jonathan McNeese and Spyderco collaboration has led to several beautiful designs that hold true to the signature Spyderco characteristics and quality while demonstrating McNees’ distinct style.

The McBee is a compact EDC blade based on the popular Killer B folding knife. Although it’s not much bigger than the best-selling Spyderco women’s knife, the Cricket, this knife packs a serious punch. Through careful design, its 1.52-inch CTS-XHP Wharncliffe blade cuts clean and offers outstanding edge retention due to the steel’s high chromium content.

A titanium handle and short blade make for maximum control when cutting. Any minimal-space cutting tasks become easy work with this compact knife. It can fit easily into your pocket or be fastened by the pocket clip.

You can buy the Spyderco McBee in several custom finishes, including Blue Titanium, Bronze Snakeskin Titanium, and Blue Snakeskin Titanium.

Spyderco Techno 2, Jonathan McNees Custom

The Spyderco Techno 2 is the perfect example of an astounding second-generation knife. Designed by Polish custom knife maker, Marcin Slysz, the Techno 2 is more than a match for its predecessor.

It’s an incredibly strong knife for its size, boasting a rock-solid spine and high saber grind. The 2.5-inch CTS-XHP stainless steel blade allows for ease of carrying and also contributes to high performance. Its medium length makes it suitable for big and small tasks.

The custom titanium handle is a joy in the hand and a pleasure to look at. It’s available in purple, green, and blue snakeskin titanium. Whatever finish you choose will be easy to maintain due to the open-back style. This is created by the anodized titanium standoffs that join the two handle halves.

Without compromising on output, the Spyderco Techno 2 is a beautifully crafted knife suitable as an EDC.

Sharpening and Maintaining a Spyderco Knife

Sharpening: The CTS-XHP steel found in the McBee and Techno 2 is known for its edge retention and hardness. While it is an excellent steel for blades, a by-product of its durability is that it can be challenging to sharpen. To keep it in top shape, you’ll need lubricant and a sharpening stone.

  • Apply a thin layer of lubricant to either side of your stone.
  • Angle the blade against the rough grit side of your stone. Between 20 and 30 degrees is optimal for most Spyderco blades. Repeat this step on the other side of the blade.
  • After sharpening the blade with the rough grit, repeat the process using the finer grit side of your stone.

Maintenance: Learn to disassemble and reassemble your knife. Clean it thoroughly using alcohol, cotton swabs, and paper towels. Apply a dab of lubricant on any bearings or washers to keep the mechanics functioning smoothly.
