Two Perfect EDC Knives for Women - Spyderco Cricket & Kershaw Chive
Posted by Clayton on Feb 21st 2013
I love pocket knives and everything they stand for and so does my lovely wife. You see she has learned that the pocket knife is a tool meant to be used for every day chores or tasks that require their "sharp" expertise. Plus a folder offers a little piece of protection to keep the mind at ease for those walks to the car at night alone. What I love most about researching and using different knives is I get to see my wife's jubilation when I bring a new model home. Her two favorites happen to be two of the smallest EDC knives perfect for women, the Spyderco Cricket and the Kershaw Chive.
Spyderco Cricket
Case and point, I ordered a few Spyderco Cricket knives because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Low and behold this tiny knife with the wicked S curved blade was nothing short of amazing. However, I didn't have it in my hands long before my wife snatched it and said " I have to have that"! I wasn't about to tell her no and besides, it is a perfect everyday carry knife for a woman. Is small, dainty yet very powerful and emasculating all at the same time.
The Spyderco Cricket has been in production for years, but Spyderco keeps reinventing this little nugget and who can blame them. The newest model is the C29GF Cricket Glass Fiber with NISHIJIN scale handle (the one my wife snagged) This compact pocket knife was introduced in 2012 and has been all the rage. The 1.8" VG-10 stainless steel blade has a unique style that makes it one of a kind. At just 2.75 inches closed and a stainless pocket clip, the Cricket can be carried discreetly just about anywhere you wanna put it. (My wife has been known to clip it to her bra).
- Overall length - 4.76"
- Blade length - 1.89"
- Blade steel - VG-10
- Closed - 2.75"
- Cutting edge - 1.625"
- Weight - 1.67 oz
- Blade thickness - .08"
- Handle material - Glass Fiber
Kershaw Chive
The other small folding knife that my wife just went nuts over is the Kershaw Ken Onion Chive spring assisted opening knife. The first thing I noticed about the Tungsten is how shiny and pretty it is. This knife only measures 2 7/8" closed so it will fit just about anywhere.
Being a Ken Onion knife can only mean one thing, SpeedSafe assisted opening technology. Yes even this little Kershaw Chive has a flipper so it opens lightning fast with one hand. It comes with a 2" 420HC stainless boron carbide coated blade for a very shiny reflective look. The knife almost looks like it is too shiny to use. I was almost afraid to get it dirty but this little folder is built to work.
The Kershaw Chive weighs just 2 ounces and can be carried in any size pocket, purse or bra strap :) should you take the notion ladies.
Specs:
- Overall: 4.875"
- Blade: 1.94"
- Weight: 1.9 oz.
- Black Aluminum handles
- 420HC stainless steel blade
- Reversible stainless pocket clip
So here are two of the best (every day carry) EDC knives for women to carry. Guys if you carry a knife on a daily basis, why not have your significant other do the same. My wife never leaves the house without her Spyderco Cricket clipped to her body.
