Big GT fan, these knives are great for real use and and the 040 is no exception. Makes my Combat Troodons and Scarabs look almost petite, it’s a big hoss. Razor sharp, smooth action, no failures in a week of use so far.

The steel and blade design is great. The knife is a thiccc girl and you feel like crocodile dundee every time you pull it out, which makes me smile every time. However, there is lateral play and wiggle in the blade when deployed which is much more noticeable both visually and audibly. The lockup feels not nearly as tight as my ultratech. Good knife and good steel, but for the money I'd prefer less wiggle in the blade and a bit more powerful action as a simple twist of your wrist when deploying can jam up the action and cause a deployment failure.

This is my second GT. I have purchased several MT in the past and have been fairly happy with them. I have found the GT mechanism is superior to MT. Granted I have only had them a couple of months but I am extremely impressed. As usual eknives was perfect with fulfillment of my order.

    Recon 040

Posted by Tony A. on May 13th 2023

Great knife. Strong, heavy in a good way, and built like a tank. Action is smooth and so much easier to open and close then a microtech. My favorite EDC and the one I always carry on patrol. Thanks EK for the great customer experience and service. Great products, fast delivery, and great people. What else can you ask for?

This is my second GT recon, I love both of them. As everyone states, the action is so smooth it makes the competition feel rough. The 040 is huge compared to its little brother the 035 but it still fits in my pocket without noticing a difference. The one thing I've been waiting for is a torture test like the microtech guys have done. I'm sure they would hold up the same but would still love to see it, and no I'm not going to do it to my $400 knife...
