ESEE Junglas Bushcraft Knife of the Jungle

ESEE Junglas Bushcraft Knife of the Jungle

The ESEE Junglas (pronounced "hoon-glas") is not only a beast of a bushcraft blade but it is one of the largest sheath knives on the market at over 16" long. Some call it a machete, while others call it a knife. We prefer to think of it as a "jungle clearer". The Junglas was actually developed for Colombian Special Forces in South America, which is where it got its name (named after the Colombian drug task force Commandos) but you will find many outdoor enthusiasts with one in their blade arsenal.

The ESEE Junglas is made by ESEE Knives, a partner to Randall's Adventure & Training who has been training law enforcement, Military and the average joe since 1997. After a contract with Ontario Knife Co, in 2007 RAT decided to step up the quality of their knives and the ESEE line was born. It has been noted that ESEE will field test the heck out of their knives before they ever hit production and the Junglas is no different

While the Junglas is probably too much knife for the occasional outdoorsman, it is perfect for those who like to escape to the wilderness and get lost like they are auditioning for an episode of Survivor.

Handle

The ESEE Junglas handles are made from removable micarta, a durable material often used by sheath knife manufacturers. The Junglas handle is bead blasted for  grip enhancement and the micarta can be easily cleaned with alcohol or a lacquer/paint thinner when dirty.

As far as ergonomics, the Junglas handle is a perfect fit in both a reverse and standard grip. It is efficient in cleaning up small game and could be handled well in any survival situation. The handles end curves nicely to allow for the hand to be secure at all times.

Blade

The ESEE Junglas' blade measures 10.3" and has a width of 2 inches. It's drop point style allows for expanded cutting surface area and the blade thickness make it great for chopping, its intended use. The blade is made of 1095 carbon steel which is extremely high quality and often used in outdoor bushcraft knives. The 10 refers to the steel family while the 95 means it is in the 95% family of carbons.

High carbon blades will rust so when using the Junglas it is imperative that it be oiled regularly, especially in humid climates like the Southeast. ESEE powder coated the blade so it will help somewhat with rust prevention but not entirely so oiling is imperative.

Sheath

ESEE Knives don't like to skimp on anything where many companies will cut corners and the Junglas Sheath is no different. A solid holder for the Junglas, made of cordura and kydex with a screw adjustment for the perfect fit. The Junglas sheath is molded to the knifes shape and snaps into place so you know the knife is secure and locked in. The sheath also has ports at the bottom for water drainage so the Junglas will stay dry in any environment. Yes it is MOLLE compatible and with 17 different tie downs holes, it is safe to say it is not going anywhere. Info taken from eknives.com and knives illustrated.
