Ok so I couldn't decide on unleashed or released, so I decided to make up my own word...Re-leashed, catchy huh? Yea I know, probably not but just go with it! The Microtech UTX 85 has hit the market with a vengeance in late 2017/2018.

The custom Marfione versions are already making noise and the production models will roll out this week in black, satin and stonewash blades. For those who do not know, the UTX-85 is a scaled down version of the Ultratech (about 85%) hence the name UTX 85. It is a bit larger than the UTX-70.

I love it because it is not so small that you don't feel manly enough carrying it (UTX-70) but it is not as big as an Ultratech so pocket carry is perfect. The width is good as well so it fits in the hand really nicely. I like this knife and am glad they have decided to bring it back.

The UTX-85 OTF knife has not been released in many years so it is a treat to see it coming now. For those that are looking for an easier carry than the ultratech but think the 70 is too small, this is your model. It is wider than an Ultratech so it fills up the palm better and it is longer than a UTX 70 so you have the best of both worlds.

Blade

The UTX-85 blade is 3 inches long and made from Elmax high quality steel. In years past it was available in various blade steels and I think the last run several years ago was in S35VN. Lately over the last year Microtech Knives have been working predominantly with Elmax, a good decision I believe.

The blade comes in the usual finishes and blade styles such as Tanto, Double Edge and Single edge (drop point) in either stonewash, satin, black or bead blast.

Handle

The handle of the Microtech UTX 85 is 4.5" long and made from 6061 T6 anodized aluminum. It features tri-wing screws that sit flush with the handle top. The hardware comes in standard bead blast finish but will most surely come in black tactical as well. The Marfione custom models will probably have some anodized hardware options.

A pocket clip and glass breaker are available on the new UTX 85 and the auto thumb slide offers double action deployment and retraction using Microtech's world class spring action.

As with most Microtech Knife models, there will be custom versions available from the Anthony Marfione custom shop with higher end components, finishes and personal touches. Expect to see colors as well in this line if they continue to produce it over the next several months.
